Phone Consulting

Phone consulting is one of the most important aspects you cannot afford to leave out of your MLM business practice. Of all the components of your network marketing or MLM business, phone consulting is the Achilles heel of your network communication.

It is a bilateral necessity where you consult your down-lines and they you, and your up-lines consult you and you them. Without this communication your business is doomed to fail. Because of the physical distances between you and your down- and up-line, phone consulting is likely the only personal contact you will have with them – at least for a while.

As a business owner you need to plan ahead.

Your MLM Business plan shows foresight of how you will be growing your enterprise over the next year or so. You’ll also have to teach your down-line how to duplicate your business so they in turn can duplicate theirs and so on. Here is where phone consulting becomes important: your down-line will ask you questions pertaining to your business and product and it’s your responsibility to make it all understandable and clear to them. Telecommunication makes it easier to connect with them.

Why the telephone scripts can ruin your business.

In general, MLM companies produce telephone scripts for their distributors. In your case, your upline may suggest that you memorize, rehearse and cite the script to your prospects over the phone.

I remember in an MLM of past, my up-line suggesting to “create a sense of urgency and not give them [my prospects] time to ask questions.” “Tell them you have something important to share with them but that you have no time to explain over the phone. Then invite them to your house on ___ day at ___ time. Then hang up after a quick goodbye”.

I could not do it….. It was too corny and much unlike me.

Another more advanced MLM company gave me a script that was a guideline to follow as a basis for a telephone consultation. It was informative and had suggestive points to go over with my prospects that would coax him or her to eventually buy the service I offered.

Although I favoured the concept of the consultative approach, I was very uncomfortable with this method as well, because, still, I had to do pretty much all the talking and could not get to hear my prospect’s concerns. Besides, the ‘tone’ of the script was someone else’s, not mine.

The consultative approach works. However, in many cases, the ‘consultant’ is an untrained and unskilled person (a novice) who isn’t necessarily showing any concern about the prospect’s perspectives.

By definition, a consultant is an advisor who will give advise based on the questions asked. And since as, a beginner, you likely won’t know what questions to ask, you will leave a conversation with a phone consultant more confused than before you entered.

Now I’ll show you another approach that will guide you to ask the right questions and then, step by step, will lead you to your goal. It’s called: coaching.

What a coach does is more than what a consultant proposes: a good coach will listen to you; I mean REALLY listen to you, until you are completely understood and heard. Your coach will help you to find the right direction and will give you the answers where needed, based on your personal and business needs.

With the aid of your MLM business coach you will find it easier to put your MLM business plan together. She will teach you how to use the internet to set up your MLM lead generation tools. These tools will be your network marketing business’s most valuable assets.
